Brooks Koepka Leaves LIV Golf to Focus on Family After 4 Seasons

Five-time major golf champion Brooks Koepka has officially announced his departure from LIV Golf, saying the decision was driven by a desire to prioritise his family and personal life.

The 35-year-old American golfer joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series in 2022 after leaving the PGA Tour in a move that sparked major controversy across the sport. After four seasons and multiple victories, Koepka has now chosen to step away from the breakaway league.

Family Comes First for Koepka

In a statement released by his representatives, Koepka said that family has always been central to his life and career.

“A statement said that family considerations have always influenced Brooks’ choices, and he now feels it is the right time to spend more time with his family. It also confirmed that he is still fully committed to golf.”

Koepka is married and has a young son. Sources close to the golfer suggest that constant travel and long seasons influenced his decision to step back from LIV Golf competition.

Mutual Agreement With LIV Golf

Although Koepka reportedly had one year remaining on his LIV Golf contract, LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neil confirmed that the departure was agreed by both sides.

LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neil said the organisation is grateful for Koepka’s contribution to the league. He confirmed that the split was agreed by both parties and said Koepka was wished well in his professional career and family life.

Koepka won five LIV Golf events during his time in the league and was one of its most recognisable and successful stars.

A Career Built on Major Success

Born in Florida, Brooks Koepka turned professional in 2012 and quickly established himself as one of golf’s most dominant performers in major tournaments.

His career highlights include:

  • Five major championships

  • Three PGA Championship titles

  • Two US Open victories

  • Nine PGA Tour wins

Known for his calm mindset and strong performances under pressure, Koepka earned a reputation as one of the sport’s best big-tournament players.

Role in LIV Golf’s Early Growth

Koepka’s move to LIV Golf in 2022 was considered a major win for the new league. He joined other high-profile players such as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau, helping LIV gain global attention during a period of tension between tours.

He also served as captain of the Smash GC team, which will now be led by Talor Gooch starting with the 2026 season. Smash GC is expected to announce a replacement player in the coming months.

Possible Return to Traditional Tours?

Koepka’s exit has renewed speculation about a potential return to the PGA Tour, although no official plans have been announced. Players who competed in LIV events were previously suspended by the PGA Tour, but discussions around reunification of professional golf continue behind the scenes.

Koepka is also eligible to compete on the DP World Tour and continues to hold exemptions to play in golf’s four major championships.

The PGA Tour released a short statement wishing Koepka and his family well, while reaffirming its position as the leading global platform for elite professional golfers.

LIV Golf Faces a Turning Point

Brooks Koepka becomes the first major LIV Golf star to leave the league, a development that could signal changes ahead. His departure comes shortly after Chilean golfer Mito Pereira announced his retirement from professional golf at just 30 years old.

While LIV Golf continues to attract talent, Koepka’s decision highlights the personal pressures faced by players competing in an increasingly demanding global schedule.

What’s Next for Brooks Koepka?

For now, Koepka has made it clear that his priority is family rather than competition. Whether he returns to regular tour golf or limits his schedule remains to be seen.

What is certain is that Brooks Koepka’s legacy as one of the most successful major champions of his generation is already secure — regardless of where or when he chooses to compete next.
