Free Train Travel for Veterans on Remembrance Day 2025: Greater Anglia Announces Complimentary Journeys to London

Free train travel for veterans on Remembrance Day has been confirmed by Greater Anglia for 2025, allowing serving military personnel and veterans to travel free of charge to London and other UK remembrance events.

The initiative, introduced in partnership with other UK train operators, ensures that members of the Armed Forces community can attend services and ceremonies honouring those who have served their country.

Free Train Travel for Remembrance Events in London

Veterans and serving personnel will benefit from free train travel for veterans on Remembrance Day when travelling to London for key national events:

  • Submariners’ Remembrance Service – Free travel to any London Terminal on Saturday 1 or Sunday 2 November, with return journeys allowed on Sunday 2 November.

  • Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph – Free travel to any London Terminal on Saturday 8 or Sunday 9 November, returning on Sunday 9 November.

Free return travel is also available for anyone attending Remembrance services outside London on Sunday 9 November.

Who Can Claim Free Travel

The free train travel offer is open to serving military personnel and veterans.

Eligible travellers include:

  • Serving members of the Armed Forces in uniform

  • Personnel and veterans not in uniform, if they can show:

    • A MOD90 Ministry of Defence ID card

    • A Veterans Railcard or Veterans Oyster card

    • A Ministry of Defence-issued Veterans ID

    • Or another valid form of identification, such as proof of pension

Free Travel for Poppy Day Volunteers

Greater Anglia is also extending free train travel for veterans on Remembrance Day to Poppy Day volunteers and collectors heading to London Poppy Day on 30 October to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

The operator said it was proud to support volunteers who help fund vital services for veterans and their families.

Plan Ahead Before You Travel

Greater Anglia advises all travellers attending Remembrance events to plan ahead and check service times before travelling, as trains may be busy during the commemorative weekend.

This annual initiative reflects the company’s continued support for the Armed Forces, helping veterans, serving personnel, and volunteers travel to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service.
