Most services running normal over Easter holidays, but some TfL routes affected

Passengers travelling across London during the Easter holidays are being advised to plan ahead, as some services on the Transport for London (TfL) network will face temporary closures and reduced operations between 3 April and 10 April.

While the majority of services will run as normal, essential engineering and maintenance work will affect certain Underground, Overground, and rail routes.

Most Transport Services Will Operate Normally

TfL has confirmed that most of its network will remain open throughout the Easter period, helping residents and tourists travel across the city.

Services that will continue as usual include:

  • Buses across London
  • Santander Cycles
  • London Cable Car
  • Rental e-scooters
  • Victoria Coach Station

These options provide alternative ways to travel if rail services are disrupted.

Why Are There Closures?

TfL says the planned disruptions are necessary to carry out important upgrades and safety checks. These works are designed to:

  • Improve long-term reliability
  • Maintain safety standards
  • Reduce future unexpected disruptions

Transport officials stress that holiday periods are often chosen for such work because passenger numbers are slightly lower.

Key London Underground Disruptions

Several Underground lines will be affected during Easter:

  • London Underground Hammersmith & City line closed from 3–6 April
  • Bakerloo line partially closed between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone on selected days
  • District line suspended on parts of its route, including Whitechapel to Upminster
  • Northern line night-time closures (Camden Town to Kennington via Bank) continuing on weekdays

Passengers are advised to check routes carefully before travelling.

Elizabeth Line Changes

The Elizabeth line will also have some disruptions:

  • No early morning service between Paddington and Ealing Broadway on Sunday 5 April
  • Reduced services on certain routes
  • Some stations will be skipped during late-night services

London Overground and DLR Updates

The London Overground and Docklands Light Railway will see multiple service changes:

  • No service on parts of the Lioness and Mildmay lines
  • Reduced or suspended routes between key stations
  • DLR closures between Bank, Tower Gateway, and Poplar for several days

Tram and Road Disruptions

  • London tram services will be partly suspended between Wimbledon and Therapia Lane, with replacement buses available
  • The A40 road will be closed in both directions between Westway and Marylebone Flyover for major safety upgrades

Drivers should expect delays and follow diversion signs.

Travel Tips for Easter

To avoid inconvenience, TfL recommends:

  • Using the Journey Planner or TfL Go app before travelling
  • Allowing extra travel time
  • Considering alternative routes such as buses or cycling
  • Using the same payment method (Oyster or contactless) to avoid extra charges

Passengers can also benefit from the Hopper fare, allowing unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour for a fixed price.

Final Thoughts

Although most of London’s transport system will remain operational this Easter, planned engineering works will impact several key routes.

By planning ahead and using available tools, travellers can still move around the city smoothly and enjoy the holiday period without major disruptions.
