The Lady Mayor Unites the Square Mile for a Day of Giving

London, 24 September 2026: Hundreds of businesses in the Square Mile came together on today for City Giving Day. Led by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and The Lady Mayor Susan Langley DBE, City Giving Day is an annual celebration the City makes to its communities.

Companies including Sompo International, Linklaters, Janus Henderson and Lloyd’s Banking Group joined City businesses, Liveries and other City of London organisations in everything from a digital hackathon to a legal challenge to an CPR world record attempt with Central London Alliance. The Lord Mayor’s Appeal hosted their ownCity Giving Day events including Tour de City – with over 50 teams from City businesses competing in a Watt bike challenge outside The Leadenhall Building; City Walks, guided walks from City of London experts taking in the City’s hidden secrets and stopping off at coffee shops and drinking holes along the way; and Treasure Hunt, with corporate teams racing across the Square Mile to solve clues kicked off by The Lady Mayor Susan Langley DBE at Mansion House.

David Johnston OBE, Chief Executive of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, says:
“Thanks to everyone who made City Giving Day 2026 such a huge success. It is one of the most visible demonstrations of the City coming together to make a difference and shows that giving is not simply about writing a cheque – it is about donating time, skills, ideas, connections and opportunities. That is particularly important as The Lord Mayor’s Appeal begins its new focus on tackling London’s NEET challenge. We want to harness the extraordinary resources of the City to help young Londoners build the confidence, skills and experience they need to access employment. Today, people saw that spirit of collaboration first-hand.”

City Giving Day gives organisations the opportunity to showcase the positive impact they make through fundraising, volunteering, mentoring and community partnerships. It’s a chance to celebrate colleagues, inspire clients and partners, and demonstrate thatpurpose sits alongside performance. City Giving Day has raised more than £1.28 million for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal to date.

As Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley said at the launch of City Giving Day 2026, “When the City unites behind a common purpose, our collective impact can be extraordinary.”
