Specsavers Bexleyheath and Erith Offer Free Eye and Hearing Care for People Experiencing Homelessness

Bexleyheath, London – October 14, 2025:
Local optometrists and audiologists from Specsavers Bexleyheath and Erith are teaming up to offer free eye tests, OCT scans, glasses, and hearing care to people experiencing homelessness.

The special out-of-hours clinic will run on 14 October, from 6pm to 8pm, at the Specsavers Bexleyheath store. It’s being held in partnership with the Bexleyheath Salvation Army to give people a safe and calm place to access essential health services.

The initiative is part of Specsavers’ national homelessness programme, timed to mark World Homeless Day earlier this week (10 October).

During the clinic, visitors will be able to receive free sight tests, OCT scans, and glasses, as well as hearing checks, wax removal, and hearing aid support.

Sachin Patel, Director at Specsavers Bexleyheath and Erith, said:

“Our aim is to make sure everyone experiencing homelessness can access proper eye and hearing care. Many people struggle to get free help, so by offering out-of-hours clinics with support from the Salvation Army, we can reach those who need it most.”

According to Specsavers, one in three people who experience homelessness need glasses, yet many face barriers to getting eye care — whether due to cost, lack of a fixed address, or not qualifying for NHS support.

The Bexleyheath clinic is one of several running nationwide, helping improve access to vision and hearing services for people in need.

Specsavers also works with charities such as Crisis, Vision Care, and The Big Issue to find long-term ways to remove healthcare barriers. The company continues to call for policy changes so that people affected by homelessness can get free eye tests, ear checks, and replacement glasses if needed.

Anyone wishing to attend the clinic can book an appointment or call the store directly at 020 8298 9920.
