The new David Lloyd Colliers Wood health and fitness club has officially opened its doors to members from 27 November after an eight-month development project. The modern club is located in the Merton area of south-west London and has already attracted strong interest from the local community.
To celebrate the opening, David Lloyd hosted a special launch event and ribbon-cutting ceremony for founding members and local VIP guests. More than 100 early members, along with community partners and business leaders, attended the event to enjoy a first look at the club’s state-of-the-art facilities.
Local Leaders Welcome New Community Investment
One of the main guests at the launch was Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, Cabinet Member for Sport and Heritage at London Borough of Merton Council and local ward councillor for Colliers Wood. She officially cut the ribbon alongside Chris Wilkinson, General Manager of David Lloyd Colliers Wood.
During the event, Councillor Cooper-Marbiah spoke about how the new club will benefit the local area, especially by improving access to high-quality fitness and wellness facilities.
She said the new centre supports the borough’s goal of becoming London’s first-ever “Borough of Sport”, encouraging people of all ages to stay active and healthy.

Throughout the eight-month construction period, the club received huge interest from local residents, with hundreds securing their memberships months before the opening.
Chris Wilkinson thanked the community and the development team during his speech at the launch event. He also confirmed that the new club has helped create 85 new local jobs, supporting the area’s economy.
“We are proud to open our doors and welcome the community to this fantastic new club. We are also excited to build partnerships with local businesses, schools, and charities,” he said.
